A bound compilation of "Burst and Duds" (Volume 2) of newspapers published at the Naval Ammunition Depot in Crane, Indiana from February 16, 1944 to December 20, 1944 during World War II. The motto of the newspaper was "Eternal Vigilance." Construction of the large military facility (62,463 acres) in southwestern Indiana began in 1940 and continued throughout World War II. It is predominately in Martin County. The function of the base has evolved over the years and currently provides engineering and technical support for electronic warfare and special warfare sensors. The center employs a large number of people from Daviess County. In 2024 John & Sue Myers of the Odon Journal newspaper in Odon, Indiana allowed the Daviess County Museum to scan these newspapers into the Museum's collection. |
