1949 newspaper article about Edward C. Faith presenting a program to the Rotary Club of the early history of Daviess County. The earliest settlers came about 1800. The Wabash and Erie Canal was built during the 1840s, and as canal towns, Plainville and Maysville were among the most thriving towns in the county. Coal mining was a big industry and during the 1870s Daviess County was the leading coal producing county in the state. |
